Hello everyone. My name is Yuichi. Since 2019, I have been organizing online events that connect Japanese and overseas people. Originally, I used to host international exchange events at cafes, but we resumed in March 2023. For more details, please check here: https://www.meetup.com/ja-JP/meetup-group-ueiddqjj/
We have been using Zoom for our online events. We meet twice a month as a regular schedule, and the rest of the time we talk via a LINE group to coordinate our plans. Participants are from Japan (mainly Kyoto), Hong Kong, the United States, Sweden, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
We have been hosting events on Zoom for about two years, but we have decided to move to Meta life this time. The biggest reason for this is to eliminate inequality due to time differences. Participants from countries such as the United States and Sweden, where the time difference is significant, have had difficulty joining in. With Zoom, if the host is not present, the room cannot be opened. So we were looking for a platform where participants can enter anytime online, and we thought Meta life would be a good fit.
As before, we will have regular meetings twice a month, but we want to make it a more connected gathering among participants. Another reason is that I got bored with the visual aspect. Zoom meetings have become common at work, and even in private life, we use Zoom. So I thought it would be nice to have a more casual visual atmosphere at our meetings. You can create your own avatar and talk to other participants as if you were meeting in person. As a Pokemon generation, I find this visual style very nostalgic, haha.
With the move to Meta life, I’m sure it will be a bit inconvenient for everyone, but thank you in advance for your cooperation. I’m looking forward to seeing you at the OUCHI de International events.
